Most translation service companies provide interpreting services. To
cater to a larger audience, to get your company, product, service,
business known to people in different parts of the world, it is
essential that besides translation of written text, interpretation in
the target language becomes very essential.
What is Interpreting?
Interpreting is the process of translating the word that is spoken from
one language into the spoken word of another language. Interpreting
facilitates oral communication from one language to another and is
performed by an interpreter.
Difference between Interpreting and Translation
Despite being used as one and the same thing, it is to be noted that
translation and interpreting are not similar. The only similarity
between the two is that both interpreting and translation require a
thorough knowledge of more than one language. Professional translators
and interpreters should convey the intended message into the target
language successfully. While translation deals with written documents,
interpretation deals with the spoken word. An interpreter should not
only have to know and understand the source language, he or she also has
to know the culture of the country where the language originated. While
interpreting occurs on the spot, in real time in physical presence of
the parties for whom the interpreter gives an interpretation, a
translator's job is not on the spot. The translator has time and access
to resources to produce an accurate translated document, which is not
the case in interpreting.
Forms of Interpreting
There are four basic forms of interpreting:
- Simultaneous Interpretation: Simultaneous interpretation,
as the name suggests, is performed simultaneously at the same time
of presentation. Using special equipment like transmitter,
interpreter unit, receiver with headsets, the audience can hear the
language of their choice, while the source-language speaker
continuously speaks in a sound-proof booth.

- Consecutive Interpretation: In consecutive
interpretation, the speaker speaks few sentences before pausing and
the interpreter gets some time to render the interpretation into the
other language.
- Whispered Interpreting: In whispered interpreting , the
interpreter standing or sitting next to the small target-language
audience whispers a simultaneous interpretation of the topic.
- Liaison Interpreting: Liaison interpreting is a type of
consecutive interpreting and in used in less formal situations. The
speaker would take a break after each sentence to allow the
interpreter to translate. Examples would be meeting people at the
airport, guided tours etc.

assignment is over.

Sign Language Interpreting Services

Sign language interpreting services imply the process of using manual
communication, body language and lip movements simultaneously to convey
the intended meaning. No sound is used in such interpretation and
interpreting is done using facial expressions, hand shapes, orientation
and movement of the hands, arms or body. Such services are used in deaf
communities. When a hearing person speaks, an interpreter renders the
meaning into the sign language for the deaf person and when the deaf
person signs, the interpreter will expressed it in the spoken language
for the hearing party, which is also referred to as voice interpreting
or voicing. Deaf people can also work as interpreters.
